A small specialty in Markgräflerland is the so-called “Wiiwegli”, which in Weil–On–the–Rhine starts and ends in Breisgau. In the heart of the Markgräflerland halfway between Freiburg and the three corners intersection of France, Switzerland and Germany, lies Badenweiler. It is in the midst of the most diverse culinary region in Germany. No other region has more highly regarded kitchens, than sun–drenched South Baden. Here with us, in the midst of nature where the clocks seem to go a little slower, every gastronomic desire will be fulfilled. The vineyards, with an indescribable plethora of grape varieties, such as Gutedel, Weißherbst and Spätburgunder, to name just a couple, bring forth a wine that can do more than just stand beside the great Bordeaux. Hike past vineyards and hillside pear and fig trees and discover rarities like the Huxelrebe variety of grape, unknown anywhere else. Look down to the Rhine Valley, and view the asparagus fields that stretch across all the way to our neighbors in the Vosges. Then return to local restaurants and enjoy dishes like Markgräfler Winzervesper or a hearty Black Forest trout. Have an original Black Forest cherry cake made from locally grown fruit, wood oven-baked breads or a piece of the famous Alsatian Muenster cheese.
